Connections

UO Connections is a series of half-day visitation programs for students whose life circumstances make the goal of attending college more difficult to achieve. Through Connections, the UO specifically reaches out to students:

  • Who will be the first in their families to attend college or
  • Whose families are low-income or
  • Whose race and ethnicity is traditionally under-represented in higher education or
  • Who have faced significant obstacles in completing their education

To arrange a Connections visit, students must sign up at their high school counseling office and be accompanied by their high school counselor or a school representative. Counselors should contact Jennifer Smith at (541) 346-1272 or by e-mail at jensmith@uoregon.edu to register a group.

The UO provides nine Connections dates in order to keep groups small and the overall experience more intimate and meaningful for our guests. Since Connections dates fill up, advanced registration is required.

UO Connections Program Goals

  1. Promote higher education opportunities
  2. Provide significant interaction with current UO students
  3. Educate students about admissions and financial aid processes
  4. Promote student organizations and student life opportunities on campus

Each program serves up to eighty students and lasts about five hours (from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). During their visit, students take a campus tour, enjoy lunch hosted by the university, attend a panel discussion run by current students, and spend time with UO student leaders, scholarship recipients, and members of the UO's various ethnic student unions. In addition, UO Connections offers student-led academic, extracurricular, and financial aid sessions.
